HOTEL ST JAMES | BOUTIQUE HOTEL
01. THE CONCEPT
Searching for an escape in the city, this boutique hotel transcends traditional urban hospitality by seamlessly intertwining the vibrant spirit of Los Angeles with an oasis of calm. Weaving in the desert's earthy allure, our haven in the heart of the city provides a blend of luxury and rejuvenation, a taste of the region's natural landscapes, and a serene retreat from the everyday.
02. the space
We took the empty shell of an industrial space and transformed it into an inviting spot that exudes warmth and intrigue. We love for our work to be reflective of the place it’s located, and were inspired to blend the vibrancy of Los Angeles with the rough facade of the surrounding desert landscapes of Southern California. This hotel lobby includes a welcome desk, an intimate back lounge, and a variety of seating across the lobby and attached bar.
03. the materials
To be an oasis within the city, we brought in elements reminiscent of the natural world and created an environment that felt rejuvenating in a way that both calmed the senses and invigorated the spirit. Reflecting the imperfect beauty of nature, natural materials like travertine, zellige, and alabaster were used across the hotel space and their noticeable imperfections were highlighted. We wanted all surfaces to have a sense of movement: limewash walls, tiles with color variance, natural stones with sweeping patterns, a juxtaposition of of rough and smooth textures. A rich color palette of muted greens, creamy whites, and swaths of deep reds, browns, and oranges created a warm and inviting atmosphere.
